Are You Cleaning Your Wooden Cooking Utensils Properly? Probably Not – Here’s A Guide on How to Properly Clean Your Wooden Utensils.

Though they make look clean, over time wooden cooking utensils tend to absorb flavours and strong odours from things like onions and garlic. Not only that, but they also soak in oils and condiments with every use, transferring those odours and flavours to fresh meals which can be such an unpleasant experience.

So here are a few tips on deep cleaning your wooden utensils in the kitchen that keep your spoons, spatulas and chopping boards not only looking but smelling fresh and clean.

  • Step 1: Grab all your wooden utensils and place them in a large dish or sink.
  • Step 2: Pour boiling water over them and leave for about 15 – 20 minutes. You’ll notice all the gunk rise to the top.
  • Step 3: Remove the utensils from the sink and rinse with warm water.
  • Step 4: Make a paste using baking soda and water and rub it onto your utensils. Leave until the paste dries.
  • Step 5: Rinse with warm water then wash with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Step 6: Leave utensils out to air dry and enjoy odour-free utensils!

Because the baking powder is an odour neutraliser and odour absorber, you’ll notice after giving your utensils a deep clean they’ll come back smelling woody and sweet.
